A comprehensive range of interventional procedures are performed daily by our experienced team of Radiologists at Coolum Radiology. Many of these procedures are used in pain management of the spine, shoulder, hip and knee. These include spinal facet joint blocks, nerve root blocks, medial branch blocks, epidural injections, joint injections, PRP, and tissue biopsy. Please be aware you will not be able to drive after most CT procedures and therefore require a driver.
Many of these procedures are used to guide tissue biopsy and used in pain management of the entire musculoskeletal system. These include fine needle aspiration (FNA), tissue biopsy, bursal injections, joint injections, and PRP.
Ultrasound is most commonly used to biopsy suspicious breast lesions. When suspicious breast changes are not visible on ultrasound, a mammographic (either stereotactic or tomographic-guided) biopsy is performed. A MRI-guided breast biopsy is used when suspicious breast abnormalities visualised on MRI are not identified by mammography or ultrasound. If you have not had a previous examination prior to your interventional procedure at Cooroy Radiology you may require imaging before the procedure. Please contact Cooroy Radiology staff to organise an appointment and discuss further.
Please inform our staff if you are taking any blood thinning medication so the radiologist can assess whether it is safe to do the procedure, this may need to be ceased prior to the procedure. You should continue taking all other prescribed medications as usual. Depending on your procedure, you may need someone to drive you home.

On arrival, our reception staff will ask you to read and sign a consent form that relates to the procedure you are having. You may be asked to change into a gown and remove any metal objects or jewellery.
There are many types of interventional radiology procedures available at Coolum Radiology, each procedure varies . Our team will explain your procedure to you on the day. Our highly trained staff will be available to answer any questions you may have prior to or after the procedure.

The images obtained are digitally recorded. At Coolum Radiology our highly trained and qualified Radiologists interpret the images and provides a report for your doctor and/or referring health care provider within 24 hours.
You will need to make a follow up appointment to discuss biopsy results with your referring practitioner. Pathology results can take 3-7 days to reach your referring practitioner. Your doctor can access your report and images electronically via a secure portal and you will be able to access your images via our patient portal.
